YACHT REGISTRATION GUIDELINES:

Shipowner Eligibility

To register any vessel under the Marshall Islands flag, you need to be a Marshall Islands business entity eg. a corporation, general or limited partnership, or limited liability company.An existing foreign entity may however also be used by being registered as a Foreign Maritime Entity in the RMI.

General Registration Documentation/ Requirements:

  • List of proposed names
  • Application Form for the Registration of the Yacht
  • Proof of authority of agent executing the registration documents eg. Power of Attorney
  • Proof of ownership eg Bill of Sale, Builder’s certificate
  • Proof that the yacht is free from liens and encumbrance
  • Proof of liability insurance , including owner’s repatriation obligations
  • Permission to transfer from previous registry or deletion certificate
  • National Tonnage Certificate for yachts under 24m issued by an RO or AR
  • International Tonnage Certificate (ITC) for yachts 24m or greater issued by an RO or AR
  • Civil Liability Bunker Certificate for yachts 1000 GT and over
  • All Yachts must comply with the relevant national and international requirements

For Private Yachts:

  • Ordinarily 12 m and over
  • Declaration of Private Use
  • Submission of valid class and statutory certificates to satisfy the pre-registration test (if unclassed must undergo inspection)
  • Submission of list of lifesaving and firefighting appliances Proof of the authorization person to sign on behalf of the owner

For Private Yachts Limited Charter (having Compliance Certificate allowing the yacht to be engaged in limited chartering):

  • Ordinarily 18 m and over
  • Declaration of Private Use with intention to engage in limited charter
  • Application for Minimum Safe Manning;
  • A PYLC Compliance Certificate
  • Copy of Long Range Identification and Tracking Conformance Test Report (if Category 0 or Category 1 and 300 GT and over)
  • Submission of valid class and statutory certificates to satisfy the pre-registration test
  • Submission of list of lifesaving and firefighting appliances Proof of the authorization person to sign on behalf of the owner, Record of Safety Equipment and, if applicable, Tender Statement of Compliance
  • Compliance Verification process by an AR

For Commercial Yachts:

  • Ordinarily 24 m and over
  • Declaration of Intent to maintain Commercial Compliance
  • International Safety Management Code Declaration of Company and Designated Person Ashore (if 500 GT and over)
  • International Ship and Port Facility Security Code Declaration of Company Security Officer (if 500 GT and over)
  • Application for Minimum Safe Manning
  • Application for Ship Radio Station Licence (within 90 days of registration)
  • Continuous Synopsis Record (if 500 GT and over)
  • Maritime Labour Certificate (if 500 GT and over compulsory but recommended anyway as any such yacht may subject to such inspection)
  • Confirmation of Class
  • Commercial Yacht Compliance Certificate issued by an AR
  • Copy of LRIT Conformance Test Report (if 300 GT and over)
  • Compliance Verification process by an AR

For Passenger Yachts:

  • Declaration of Intent to maintain Passenger Yacht Compliance
  • International Safety Management Code Declaration of Company and of Designated Person Ashore
  • International Ship and Port Facility Security Code Declaration of Company Security Officer
  • Application for Minimum Safe Manning Certificate
  • Application for Ship Radio Station Licence (within 90 days of registration)
  • Continuous Synopsis Record Amendment Forms
  • Maritime Labour Certificate
  • Confirmation of Class
  • PAXY Compliance Certificate issued by an AR
  • Copy of LRIT Conformance Test Report
  • Compliance Verification process by an AR
