  • MALTESE REGISTRY: BRIDGE NAVIGATIONAL WATCH ALARM SYSTEMS ON COMMERCIAL YACHTS

As per Technical Notice SLS.29 issued by the Merchant Shipping Directorate on the 17th of June 2016, the Technical Notice SLS.22 is revoked. Furthermore, by virtue of the amendments on Chapter V of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), as amended by Resolution MSC.350 (92), enforced as from 1st of January 2015, a Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) is set for all Commercial yachts built prior to 1st July 2002 with gross tonnage of 150 and over.

Specifically, commercial yachts of 150 gross tonnage and over but less than 500 gross tonnage shall be fitted with a BNWAS not later than the first survey on or after 1 January 2018; commercial yachts of 500 gross tonnage and over but less than 3,000 gross tonnage not later than the first survey on or after 1 January 2017; and commercial yachts of 3,000 gross tonnage and over not later than the first survey on or after 1 January 2016.
